Formed in 2000 by experienced traditional folk instrumentalists, Keith & Carole Allen, this well-established ceilidh band from Cornwall are now playing throughout the west-country. They play a loosely Celtic-based repertoire, including a range of European dance tunes & songs that are an impulsive repertoire for community ceilidh/barn-dance audiences. As a result, the electro-acoustic blend they now play is characterised by driven, jaunty melody lines from the squeeze-box, hauntingly textured harmonies from the violins and flute, all underpinned by rocky rhythms from the guitar, mandola and emphasised with primeval beats from the percussion. The recent addition of bagpipes and bass help to create a spicy wall of sound from the band!
Based in Kerrier & Penwith, their stamping ground continues to be essentially across Cornwall - but the band has ventured much further afield in recent years; latterly The 'Crawlers been guests at festivals in Brittany; whilst back in 2006 they did their first London appearance. Further gigs in Le Faouet, France and Kilkenny, Ireland took place in 2010, which the band are very much enjoyed! On the recording front, having contributed tracks to a compilation CD of Cornish folk bands, entitled 'Ebb and Flow', a new full-length CD of their own is being planned for the near future by the band.
As the band's appearances at increasingly larger and more prestigious events have grown, it has become necessary to combine different permutations of acoustic and electric instruments to deliver a full-clarity, top quality sound at sufficiently high volume levels. Also, in order to achieve this, the band have invested in some high quality PA and amplification equipment that consistently reflects the band at their best!
