Alex started his musical education in Hull University reading Music and Drama. During his three years, He performed and musically directed several shows including ‘Jerry Springer the Opera’ by Richard Thomas; ‘Last 5 years’ by Jason Robert Brown; and, He composed a musical adaptation of the play ‘Yerma’ by Garica Lorca.
During his time in Hull, He studied with Sarah Leonard and Christopher Wilson, performing a wide range of repertoire with a focus on English song. He has sung at master classes from Opera North, Robert Tear, Sarah Conolley and Joel Efram in their respective fields and He has also performed as a Jazz singer in the Edinburgh fringe festival twice with the Hull University Big Band. In addition, He has performed Jazz with several solo artists including Maureen Braithwaite. His main interests are both Opera and Musical theatre.
He joined Trinity College last as a postgraduate studying vocal performance, conducting and arranging with a Choral Scholarship. He is taught by Lynton Atkinson and Helen Yorke, whilst also receiving masterclasses and lessons from several other performers including Simon Keenlyside and Linda Hirst. He is a member of the Trinity College Chamber Choir, one of the most active Choral groups on Campus. Alex has performed as a soloist with the BBC Symphony Chorus at the Royal Albert Hall, and is looking forward to participating in British Youth Opera Workshops this Summer He also sings with the Blossom Street Singers, a choir that has performed on Channel 4, Sky, BBC TV/Radio.
Recent Performances include Szymanowski's Stabat Mater (Baritone solo); Gilbert and Sullivan's 'Pirates of Penzance' (Major-General); B. Britten’s ‘Albert Herring’ (Sid); and, Daniel-Lesur 'Le Cantique des Cantiques' in the 31st Prom 2010(Tenor Solo). He records with BBC Radio regularly, most recently the morning service on Radio 4 (2nd and 3rd of November). He is look forward to June when he will be performing Handels ‘Rinaldo’ playing Argante at Blackheath Hall. Alex also recently gained a place on an intensive Opera performance course at the Advanced Performers studio, beginning in september.
