Andrew is one of Her Majesty the Queen’s musicians and also played for HRH Princess Margaret on a number of occasions both in the UK and in Mustique.
He is one of Britain’s new generation of outstanding classical guitarists whose exceptional talent and warm personality is winning new audiences for the classical guitar. His mission to promote the instrument’s rich and varied repertory on the concert platform is finding him a wide following: through his musicianship and charisma he is communicating a fresh and exciting feeling for the guitar which is generating a new-found enthusiasm for the instrument.
A former student of Oliver Hunt and a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he studied with Michael Lewin and Timothy Walker, Andrew has appeared at many venues throughout Europe, including several performances on both radio and television, and also in Australia and the Caribbean. He has also worked in partnership with several international singers including Sarah-Jane Dale (Soprano) and Andrew Watts (Counter-Tenor).
The most significant of his recent achievements in the UK have been the release of his first solo CD British Guitar and two recitals before capacity audiences on London’s South Bank. These three events alone have played no small part in his growing recognition as a performer with flair and musicality. They have also highlighted his versatility: in Spanish, South American and British repertoire, Andrew's programmes of guitar masterworks, displaying a wealth of instrumental style and colour, have amply demonstrated his musical and technical skills.
Andrew’s particular interest in and close affinity to the works of British composers has led him not only to champion major contemporary works but also to encourage many composers to write for the instrument. He has been acclaimed for his interpretative insight and for his ability to communicate, with conviction and imagination, challenging new techniques and ideas.
