About / Biography

Dan B is a world-class singer and multi-instrumental musician. It’s in his blood.

He was raised on soul, blues, funk, and rock music from an early age. In his teens, Dan was playing gigs throughout Yorkshire in his dad’s blues band – and from then on live performance became a way of life.

Dan’s father toured and recorded with former members of David Bowie’s ‘Spiders from Mars’, and supported such icons as Jimi Hendrix and Hot Chocolate.

Dan specialises in wedding ceremonies, drinks receptions, corporate dinners, family gatherings, and live background music. In addition to this, ‘main feature’ performances are a big part of Dan’s career - including live events, festivals, house concerts, and renowned music venues.

Along with an average of 150 gigs per year, Dan is also a library music composer for film and TV. He has co-written and recorded music which featured on ‘Stolen’ (Nicolas Cage), and ‘Supernatural’ (USA TV series), among many others.

Notable events include:

Original songs included in Caffe Nero’s international playlist.
Became an official Spotify and Shazam artist.
Showcased nationally on BBC Radio as artist of the week, with the show reaching over 1.2m listeners.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

I need a performance space of at least 10ft (w) by 8ft(d), 1 x nearby 13 amp power outlet, and 1 x parking space.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

Yes, I'm self-contained with a selection of high-end PA systems and instruments.

What information do you require about a venue?

I need to know which room to set up in, and for a suitable space to be clear when I arrive.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, I can provide background music before/between sets if requested in advance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever played at?

The most fun gigs were on a solo tour of NYC. The best venue I've ever played was probably the Savoy in London.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

The most influential artists to me are Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, and Ray Charles.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I have 15 years experience as a pro musician (even through the pandemic!), and I started playing music when I was a kid. I've played at hundreds of weddings and events, including celebrity parties and sporting events.

What's your favourite type of event to play at?

I enjoy playing weddings - making the difference at ceremonies by providing live music or setting the scene at a drinks reception, and seeing people enjoy themselves on the biggest day of their lives.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

Set up: 1 hour (although is often less, depending on venue and load-in distance)
Lineups: Solo (piano/vocals), duo (piano/vocals & acoustic guitar/vocals), band (piano/vocals, bass guitar, drums - with optional additions of guitar/sax)
Standard performance time: 90 minutes (either 3 x 30, 2 x 45, or 1 x 90)

Are you happy to perform outside?

I'm happy to play outside on a flat level surface with a nearby power supply - providing the weather is clear. If there is any risk of rain I need to be indoors due to my electrical equipment setup.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

I can learn specific songs for an additional fee to cover my rehearsal time, and I'm happy to send out my full song list for clients to choose from.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Previous customers have described my performances as 'perfect for the occasion', 'a great repertoire of music, and 'a stunning performance'.
