Hannah Northedge has an instantly recognisable voice. A warm alto with a rich, lush timbre, impressive power across her range that spans more than three octaves and incredible versatility, dynamic range, agility and command.
She excels at singing jazz, blues, swing and country styles but also sings pop, rock and other contemporary styles with authenticity.
Hannah is a glamourous chanteuse and charismatic band leader and fronts her own ensembles comprising some of the UK's finest musicians from duo, trio, quartet, quintet to larger ensembles. She can also perform solo using high quality backing tracks and also as a guest singer with other ensembles.
She is currently undertaking a one year postgraduate Master of Music (MMus) Performance degree at the University of Surrey.
She has had the privilege of performing in prestigious and legendary venues such as the 606 Jazz Club, Smollenskys and The Barbican and has featured on the bill of the Greenwich Jazz Festival. She has a residency at Rendezvous Casino in Brighton and has also enjoyed various cruise contracts and has major session singing credits. Jazz FM and BBC Radio have aired Hannah's recordings and invited her in for live sessions and interviews.
She has been a guest singer with The Les Paul Trio in New York City, The Rat Pack Trio and Orchestra and The Rob James Orchestra, swing band Rockin' in Rhythm and The Piccadilly Dance Orchestra. Some of the musicians she works with include Derek Nash; saxophonist for Jools Holland and internationally renowned pianists and composer Simon Wallace and Christian Vaughan.
2012 will see the release of two albums for Hannah: a collection of jazz and blues songs and also an album of self penned country blues originals. With the latter project, Hannah has been asked to record in Nashville for a songwriter that wrote for late country legend Johnny Cash.
In 2007 with her choir The Hannah Northedge Singers she recorded part of the soundtrack for major feature film The Oxford Murders (starring John Hurt and Elijah Wood) for film composer Roque Banos at Abbey Road Studios and appeared in the film too!
She presently trains her voice with respected session singer and vocal coach Kim Chandler and also Dane Chalfin and has, in the past, had tuition from Mary Hammond (Royal Academy of Music), Gillyanne Kayes (Vocal Process) and jazz singer Tina May.
Hannah herself is a private vocal coach teaching adults that are either professional vocalists or are ready to enter the industry.
Miss Northedge's particular penchant for donning authentic 1920s, 30s and 40s clothing with hairstyles to match when performing is why she is often sought after as a featured act for vintage and World War II events including the world renowned Twinwood Festival.
With fellow Last Minute Musicians artist and multi instrumentalist Matt Dibble, Hannah fronts a sleek 5 piece function band named Ricochet playing rock and pop from the 1950s to present day and also jazz if requested.
Hannah doesn't usually mention…….that she played the lead role of Traudl Junge, Hitler's secretary in a BBC 2 documentary called Days That Shook the World!
"If I ever needed a singer or a choir for a film soundtrack, I wouldn't consider using anyone else."
Roque Banos - Film composer (The Oxford Murders, Sexy Beast, The Machinist)
" 'In the Still of the Night' is an excellent performance. I really enjoyed it."
DJ Chris Moore - Jazz Incorporated show, BBC Radio
"It was a great pleasure having Hannah singing with us at the 606 Club."
Russ Henderson MBE - Noted jazz pianist and steel pan player
