Helen found an interest in music and the guitar at the early age of 4. Coming from a musical family, She started singing lessons at the age of 12 and also plays the piano and dabbles at the guitar and drums. At the age of 13 she was singing original dance tracks and performing in nightclub venues. She is classically trained but her passion lies in singing pop, jazz, soul and funk. She started at Trinity College of Music at the age of 18 and has recently graduated.
Helen has studied with some of the leading, most respected teachers and musicians including Victoria Newton, Anton Brown, Trudy Kerr, Anita Wardell, Tina May and Laura Zakian. She has had a lot of experience performing at corporate events and weddings and has performed at world-famous venues such as Ronnie Scott's, The 606 Jazz Club, Pizza on the Park, the Cheltenham jazz festival, Blackheath Halls and the "Jazz Under the Stars" festival in Sweden.
About the Helen Sutcliffe Band
Helen Band - Live Music for Corporate Events, Weddings and FunctionsThe Helen Sutcliffe band was formed in 2001 by students from Trinity College of Music in London. Originally formed as a quintet, the band now performs in a duo, trio, quartet or quintet format.
As the band have such a wide repertoire, they are able to provide "something for everyone" and are particularly suitable for wedding receptions where guests often have very varied tastes. If you require mainly background music at your event then jazz from the duo or trio is perfect, whereas the quartet or quintet will create a much more lively atmosphere to get your guests out of their seats!
A lot of clients like to include some jazz and easy listening first, with music to dance to at the end of the evening. Please feel free to make one request which may be for a specific purpose i.e. first dance, birthday song etc. Popular first dance choices include "Let There Be Love", "Let’s Stay Together" & "It had to be you". If your guests will want to dance, we recommend booking the quartet or quintet, as the duo and trio can't perform much of the music to dance to without the drums.
Line up:
Duo: Vocals + Keyboard
Trio: Duo + Bass
Quartet: Trio + Drums
Quintet: Quartet + Sax
