About / Biography

Kate studied the harp with Eluned Pearce and Saida de Lyon at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama as a junior scholar and later moved to London to study with Sioned Williams and Imogen Barford at Trinity College of Music. She regularly gives recitals all over the country, including venues such as the Fairfield Halls and St James’ Piccadilly, and has recently performed Handel’s Harp Concerto with the Croydon Symphony Orchestra. In 2000, Kate won the Trinity College of Music UK Harp Association Prize and in 2001 the Croydon Music Festival Concerto Prize. October 2005 saw Kate backing the pop band ‘McFly’ on an electric harp for their debut Arena tour of the UK and Ireland, playing to over 200,000 people.

Kate is also a member of the Aurora Duo, an established flute and harp duo. Finalists of the “Gaetano Zinetti” International Chamber Music Competition (2005) and recommended artists for the Making Music “Young Concert Artist Award”, they have performed extensively and to great acclaim throughout the UK and Europe. They are in much demand with various orchestras, having performed the Mozart Flute and Harp Concerto in London, Birmingham and Glasgow. They completed a successful tour of Scotland in October 2004 and are set to return in April 2006.

In addition to her chamber music work, Kate has worked with orchestras such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, the Ulster Orchestra and Scottish Sinfonia for radio broadcasts, CD recordings and live performances at the Royal Festival Hall, the Barbican Centre and St John’s, Smith Square.
