Phil is a fluent, versatile and complete musician with many years' professional experience, equally happy in classical or jazz and pop styles. He combines natural musicianship with the consummate skills of a highly trained musician working in the following areas:

- Pianist - classical solo and chamber music, also accompanist, jazz and pop studio session work
- Piano teacher - across many styles and genres with a teaching specialism in fluent keyboard musicianship
- Singer - classically trained tenor with adaptable voice for pop and jazz styles
- Vocal teacher / coach - equally happy working as a repetiteur / performance coach or as a voice teacher
- Composer, producer, arranger - working with Cubase and Finale software in a vast range of musical styles
- Theory, composition and academic music teacher - with extensive experience teaching music and music technology at all levels

Phil trained at the Royal Northern College of Music as a first study pianist with Ryszard Bakst and graduated in 1989 with 1st class honours. He has also studied with Ella Pounder, Denis Matthews, Renna Kellaway and is currently working with Bryce Morrison.

His eclectic and innate musicianship combines with technical mastery to make Phil a musician of rare versatility and range. He champions ways of making music which embody his teaching values of fluency and natural expressiveness.
