Biography

Nick is a seasoned professional with over ten years' performance experience, in that time being lucky enough to work with artists as varied as great American trumpeter Bobby Shew, British multiple jazz award winner Alan Barnes, Big Band front-man and 'professional nephew' John Miller, Scottish jazz trumpet luminary Bruce Adams, Northern Soul divas The Flirtations, Sheffield star ascendant Richard Hawley, Big Band singers Matthew Ford and Lee Gibson, and Bernie Clifton and his Ostrich.

Nick is available for concerts, events, weddings, parties, theatre shows and other engagements on a freelance basis, as well as providing private saxophone tuition.

Nick specialises in playing tenor, baritone, alto, and soprano saxes, doubles on clarinet and bass clarinet and has even been known to flirt with flutes.

In the course of his career so far, Nick has performed at countless theatres, venues and concert halls, including the National Indoor Arena, Castle Howard, the Latitude Festival in Suffolk, and Blenheim Palace. Memorable trips abroad also include: the MotoClube bikers' convention in Faro, Portugal; Bialystock Film and TV festival in Poland; and Israel's national concert venue, the Fredric R Mann Auditorium, Tel Aviv.

Nick's main influences are Big Band players like the great Johnny Hodges, through Marshall Royal, Lockjaw Davis, Pepper Adams, Eric Dolphy and Joe Henderson to contemporary players like Denis DiBlasio, Ronnie Cuber and the amazing, sadly departed Michael Brecker.

He also enjoys playing funk and blues - major influences here being King Curtis, 'Cannonball' Adderley, Herbie Hancock, Bennie Maupin, Bob James, and Maceo Parker.

Nick is currently touring nationally and internationally with seventies' soul disco legends Jimmy James and the Vagabonds! Also look out for the Vernon Sisters and the Flirtations, for whom Nick is also 'first call'.

Nick also runs his own jazz quartet, "Mulligan Soup" - a tribute to Gerry Mulligan's 1950's quartet with Chet Baker. Check out the details at mulligansoup.com (though this link doesn't work, you'll have to type it in your browser ;-) or at Nick's website (above).

Thanks!
