Frequently asked questions

Most covers bands are self-contained and provide their own sound equipment which is suitable for typical situations. If your event is to be held in a large venue, or you have more than 300 guests, we recommend that additional sound equipment should be used. Always ask your act about their sound system requirements. Some covers bands have lighting systems, but most usually will charge extra for this or recommend a third party supplier for you to use.

You should always check whether or not your act is prepared to play outdoors. It’s sometimes not possible for acts that use a lot of electronic equipment to perform anywhere where it might rain.If the act is happy to perform outdoors you should plan to have electrical outlets close to the performance area and provide a flat surface as well as a cover in case of rain.

Each event is different but the typical performance time for covers bands is 2 x 45 minutes sets within a 2 hours period. Some acts are happy to play longer sets or additional sets. Often, breaks can be negotiated but you should be aware that the price may increase if the musicians need to be onsite for a longer period of time.

Booking covers bands as early as possible increases the chance of securing their availability on your event date, particularly during busy times of the year. However, many acts also accept last minute bookings, and we have successfully arranged performances for clients with just a few hours' notice.

The cost of hiring musicians can vary significantly depending on the type of act. The average price is currently £1090. Budget-level acts may be available for as low as £95, while top-tier acts can command prices as high as £10266.

About these Covers Bands

Live entertainment is second to none at parties and events. Hiring musicians to play can bring an extra special atmosphere to an event, getting guests up dancing and having fun. Perhaps no one stands a better chance at this than a local covers band. Covers bands play everything, from the contemporary pop songs of Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and The Killers to classic artists such as The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi.

Covers bands have been a staple of live events for decades. The line up of covers bands varies greatly, going from a three piece to bands made up of five or six musicians. Some will even include brass sections that can bring the line up total to eight or nine musicians! Both cover and tribute bands are a fantastic addition to any event and are guaranteed to make your event unforgettable for all who are lucky enough to attend.

When booking a covers band:

Once you’ve found a covers band that might suit your event, it’s important that you try and get a sense of what the band is like when playing live. All professional covers bands will have recordings of them playing and perhaps video footage available on their LMM profile to give you a feel for their performance. Alternatively, some bands may have upcoming gigs that you may be able to attend, to experience them first hand. There are so many different styles of covers band, it is especially important to read through their sample repertoire and get as good a feel as you can for the sort of material they play.

Tribute bands are also an extremely popular choice when choosing a cover band. There are hundreds of tribute bands available for nearly every popular band or artist. Tribute acts make the effort to look, dress and sound just like the artist, giving a performance just like the real deal. Some of the most popular acts to perform a tribute to include Elvis Presley, Elton John and Freddie Mercury. When booking a tribute or cover band it’s important to remember the technical requests of the band. These requirements may include parking, adequate performance space and the correct amount of power sources to power monitors, amplifiers and a PA system. It’s important to converse with the band with their needs and requirements to avoid any problems on the night.

It’s also vital that you check with the venue as to their entertainment license as most venues will have a music curfew that you will need to adhere to. If you fail to do so, it could spell problems for your event.

Prices for:

The amount a covers band will cost to hire will usually depend on the line up. The more musicians in the band, the bigger the sound, but the more they are likely to charge. A typical 3 - 4 piece band will usually ask a minimum of £500 for a private event, and most will charge more dependent on distance and if they specialise in any particular genre or tribute show. If you are looking to cut down on cost, try using the "advanced search" feature to find a band more local to your venue.

About covers band's repertoire:

One of the good things about cover bands is their versatile repertoire. Unless they specialise in a specific genre, most covers bands will have a great selection of songs from the 1960's, right up to modern pop hits. They can often do acoustic sets and have other options available, such as the ability to take requests and perform your first dance. Just remember, if you do want to hear a specific tune, make sure you give the band plenty of time to learn and rehearse it. Try and make any requests realistic - your 3 piece rock trio might struggle to pull off the sound of a jazz big band orchestra!
