Louise Golbey is an inspiring, emerging singer, songwriter and musician.
Having already played at Glastonbury and recorded at the famous Maida Vale studios, Louise has established herself amongst a variety of acclaimed producers and DJ’s. A frequent performer on the live soul/jazz circuit she has appeared at various legendary venues whilst her strong fan following continues to grow.
Her use of original melodies, infectious hooks and head-nodding rhythms instantly command the listener’s attention. Blessed with a genuinely soulful voice, she sets herself apart from her modern contemporaries and is fast becoming a rising star in the Neo Soul genre.
Although currently unsigned Louise has achieved a number of major milestones during her career so far. Her outstanding performance at Glastonbury on the BBC Introducing stage has resulted in Louise being widely regarded as ‘One to watch.’
Louise has been getting more and more radio play and is a firm favourite on the BBC radio stations. Her track Same Old Same Old was BBC 1Xtra DJ Ras Kwame's tip of the week on The Home-grown show and subsequently Louise's tracks have been played regularly on BBC Radio 1Xtra, 6Music, Jazz FM and Colourful Radio, most recently by DJ Ronnie Herel and the infamous Trevor Nelson.
Louise has also developed a strong reputation within the UK soul scene performing extensively across London and beyond. She has also supported a number of renowned artists such as Omar, Vula (Basement Jaxx), Kele Le Roc, Terri Walker, Krystal Warren, Nathan ‘Flutebox’ Lee, Ed Sheeran and more recently one of Barack Obama's favourite artists: Anthony David, on his only London Tour date at Bush Hall earlier this year.
Completely unique, her music style can be described as contemporary soul with a twist of jazz. Louise’s voice is utterly distinctive and her eclectic mix of genres is totally reflective of her personality and quirky style.
Originally a Londoner, Louise grew up in Bournemouth but has now moved back to the big smoke. She has firmly cemented herself as a regular on the live soul/jazz circuit and frequently plays at The Jazz Café and Ronnie Scott’s as well as performing at the London Jazz Festival.
Stemming from a strong musical background it was almost inevitable that Louise would embark on a music career herself. Musical influences from the 70’s soul and Motown eras are clearly apparent in her music and can also be attributed to her parent’s musical taste and the sounds of her childhood.
At present Louise is busy working on an album but has recently released two exciting new singles on iTunes- A Little While Longer and Mr Potential.
A Little While Longer, co-written with Yolanda Charles, describes the end of a relationship and is accompanied by an upbeat tempo with soulful undercurrents. Mr Potential, produced by Alex Morris, is about obsessing over the ‘perfect’ partner. Embellished with neo-soul sounds and hip-hop beats, this song has a unique flavour. Mr Potential has been so well received that it was chosen as BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Smiley Track on Gemma Cairney's show recently and voted by listeners.
Louise also features on producer Nick Doe's soulful house version of 'He Loves Me', a Jill Scott cover which is out now on the Restless Soul label and has been getting lots of attention on the club scene and also reached No. 1 in the Soulful House Charts.
She has been working with a wealth of producers including 8Trak, Alex Morris & Cato Hoeben, Nick Doe on ‘He Loves Me’, as well as continuing to work with Mercury Music Prize nominee Drew Horley. (De La Soul, Estelle, Roots Manuva, TY, Natalie Williams and Nate James)
Louise is continuing to stir up a lot of interest. The BBC has really taken to Louise and continually supports the exciting new artist. Louise’s music video for her track ‘Same Old Same Old’ features BBC Radio 1 DJ Ras Kwame and the BBC Introducing team filming behind the scenes during the shoot. The behind the scenes video is available on BBC iPlayer.
Jazz FM also invited her to headline at The Kensington Roof Gardens recently, where she performed two 45-minute sets with special guests including Lyric L, 3rd Person and Johnny Du Toit.
With her unique freshness and notable British style Louise is definitely one to watch.
